Uncovering the hidden diversity of non-biting midges (Diptera, Chironomidae) from central Namibia, using morphology and DNA barcodes
The first study results on the Chironomidae fauna of central Namibia (Khomas, Otjozondjupa and Hardap regions) are presented, based on morphology and DNA-bar- coding. The preliminary investigation led to the discovery of a new species Paraphaenocladius namibiae sp. nov. (Chironomidae, Orthocladiinae) and 17 new country records for Namibia. Keywords: Biodiversity, DNA barcoding, first records, integrative taxonomy, new species.
