Two suspected illegal hunters were arrested in the Otjiwarongo policing area on Saturday. Two other suspects were apprehended Friday near Kalkfeld, while three managed to flee. Both cases involved the illegal hunting of an oryx. According to the police, two suspects aged 26 and 41 were arrested Saturday during an operation conducted in collaboration with members of the neighbourhood watch. They were found at a T-junction of the Otjiwarongo/Otavi main road while in possession of six 50kg bags full of dried oryx meat valued at N$6,000. They will be charged with three counts: hunting of huntable game without a permit; killing game without using a firearm; and inability to give a satisfactory account of possession of game meat. The police at Kalkfeld have arrested two men aged 24 and 41 following the illegal hunting of an oryx, valued at N$6,000, during the night of Thursday to Friday.
