Abstract:

Rustenburg, South Africa (25 July 2025) – A life has been spared from continued suffering thanks to the compassion and quick action of an individual who chose to take action rather than turn away. In the heart of Seraleng, a kind community member spotted a young pangolin wandering in distress and immediately called the SPCA Rustenburg for help on Wednesday. According to the animal welfare society, Trainee Inspector Mthunzi Kunene rushed to the scene within 15 minutes, and together with North West conservation bodies, set into motion a chain of care that would save this precious creature's life. After having endured unimaginable hardship at the hands of wildlife traffickers, help had finally come this pangolin's way, now named Faith, and is now receiving expert treatment at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital. "Despite her injuries and exhaustion, Faith's fighting spirit reminds us why every single rescue matters. "The illicit wildlife trade is threatening decades of conservation work - but when one animal is saved, it's a victory for all of us," SPCA Rustenberg shares.
