The Environmental Clearance Certificate is for the construction and operation of the 400kV Transmission line from Omatando Substation to Oshivelo Substation.
The ECC is for the operation, maintenance and upgrade of the Gerus earth electrode line and station. In 2010, NamPower completed the construction of the 350kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) line also known as Caprivi link interconnector) from Gerus substation west north west of Otjiwarongo to Zambezi substation near Katima Mulilo. The purpose of the 350 kV HVDC line, is to facilitate the transmission of electricity in the SADC region in order to provide better interconnection between import and export zones and strengthen the north eastern grid.
The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of the 66kV Otjikoto - Tsumeb Power line. The 66kV Otjikoto– Tsumeb line was constructed prior to the commencement of the Environmental Management Act and its regulation, as a result there was no environmental impact assessment study conducted for the project prior to its development. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
The Environmental Clearance Certificate renewal application is for the Construction and Operation of the Auas-Gerus 400kV Transmission Line . Auas Substation is located along the C23 road to Dorbabis and Gerus Substation is located approximately 26 km outside of Otjiwarongo.

The ECC is for the operation and management of Van Eck Power Station. The Van Eck Power Station is located at the corner of Allen Street and Hosea Kutako Drive in the Northern Industrial Area, within the institutional boundaries of City of Windhoek Municipality. It is a Coal-Fired Power Station with a total of 4 generating units, each rated at 30 MW. The first two units (Unit 1 and Unit 2) were commissioned in 1972, while Unit 3 was commissioned in 1973 and Unit 4 in 1979. The station is recognizable by its two 103 meters high smokestacks or chimneys.
The Environmental Clearance Certificate is for the construction and operation of the Khomas Substation in the Khomas Region.
The Geo-technical survey predominately will consist of sub-soil drilling, extraction of soil samples and tests. The information obtained as outcome of the Geo- technical survey , will not only inform the ongoing EIA, but will also feed into the wind projects detailed technical specifications.
