The WBSW was established in 1964 and is one of the largest solar evaporation facilities in Africa, processing seawater to produce approximately 1 million tons (mt) of high-quality crude salt (NaCl) per annum. Salt is transported by truck from the plant to the Walvis Bay harbour for export.

Amendment Application: Namdeb perform land-based and marine prospecting (exploration), mining, treatment and rehabilitation in ML43. This ML covers an area of ~ 40,500 ha and is located in the Tsau//Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park, north-east of Oranjemund. The current life of mine (LOM) for ML43 ends in 2022. Namdeb has developed a potential new Long Term Business Plan (subject to Board Approval) to extend this LOM up to 2038, through implementing various changes (i.e. amendments) of the current / approved activities in ML43.

Exploration 18 (Pty) Ltd has an exclusive agreement with the owner of Exclusive Prospecting Licence (EPL) 6772, Tuhafeni Ndinelao Nashitati to do exploration within the boundaries of the EPL. EPL 6772 is located 20 km southeast of Khorixas in the Kunene Region. Exploration 18 (Pty) Ltd proposes to undertake exploration activities on EPL 6772 for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals. The proposed exploration activities therefore include: Geological Mapping; Rock Chip and Soil Sampling; and Drilling (depending on the results of the aforementioned activities).

EPL 7031 is located west, south, east and northeast of Khorixas in the Kunene Region and overlaps partly with the southern parts of the Khorixas townlands. EPL 8237 is located approximately 15 km southwest of Khorixas on both sides of the C35 towards Uis. Exploration 18 (Pty) Ltd proposes to undertake exploration activities on EPL 8237 for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals.

Exploration 18 (Pty) Ltd has an exclusive agreement with the owner of Exclusive Prospecting Licence (EPL) 7183, Hejo Investments (cc) to do exploration on EPL 7183. EPL 7183 is located 40 km southwest of Khorixas and directly south of EPL 8237. Exploration 18 (Pty) Ltd proposes to undertake exploration activities on EPL 7183 for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals.

Renewal application relating to the Kombat Mine for: Open pit (surface) mining in ML 73B (also referred to as "Asis"’) and associated activities; Processing of the ore at the existing process plant, currently being refurbished, and associated activities; and Dewatering the "Asis Far West" Shaft and conducting further underground exploration activities in ML 16.

Trigon Mining (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd (Trigon) has successfully obtained EPL 7525, located ~ 5 km west of Kombat (i.e. from the EPL’s eastern boundary), in the Otjozondjupa Region. EPL 7525 is 1067 Hectares in size, encompassing 7 different farms. Trigon proposes to undertake exploration activities on EPL 7525 for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals. Trigon is planning exploration activities on the EPL.

Lodestone is currently finalizing their Feasibility Study for the originally planned "Dordabis Iron Ore Mining Project and Associated Infrastructure" on ML 182. However, Lodestone now propose a number of changes to the previously assessed / approved (2013 EIA) project scope relating to the "original project". Lodestone is, amongst others, proposing the construction of a new overhead powerline from the Auas substation to the mine. A new 132 kV powerline is proposed for power supply from the Auas NamPower substation (near the C23/B6 roads intersection) to the mine.
