This document aims to provide you, as an Interested and/or Affected Party (I&AP), with background information regarding the application for Environmental Clearance Certificate for the proposed 100 MW solar power plant in //Karas Region. (Refer to Section 9: Locality Map), and Section 6 on the required environmental studies to be undertaken.
Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited seeks to become active at planting and harvesting agricultural fruits such as grapes, citrus and avocado plantation in the northern western part of Namibia. Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited has applied for about 670 hectares of land in Otjomaungu village in the Epupa Constituency. The allocated land is granted for grape projects. Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited is a wholly owned Namibian company planting and harvesting grapes, citrus and avocados in the North Western part of Namibia.
3. MINING AND QUARRYING ACTIVITIES 3.2 The construction of facilities for any process or activities which requires a licence, right or other form of authorisation, and the renewal of a licence, right or other form of authorisation, in terms of the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining Act), 1992. 3.2 Other forms of mining or extraction of any natural resources whether regulated by law or not. 3.3 Resource extraction, manipulation, conservation and related activities. 3.4 The extraction or processing of gas from natural and non-natural resources.
Original Application Activities that triggered EIA process (EMA Regulations 2012) Activity 1 (a) Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage The construction of facilities for the generation of electricity. The construction of three 10 MW PV facilities is proposed. Activity 1 (b) Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage The construction of facilities for the transmission and supply of electricity. The construction of PV facilities entails associated infrastructure, including transmission lines and a small onsite substation to connect to existing substations.

10.1 The construction of: (j) masts of any material or type and of any height, including those used for telecommunication broadcasting and radio transmission, but excluding - (i) flag poles, and (ii) lightening conductor poles. In November 2021, the Namibian government issued a notice of award stating its intention to appoint HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy (Hyphen) as the preferred bidder to develop the country’s first large-scale export green hydrogen (H2) project within in two concession areas (namely Springbok and Dolphin) in the Tsau//Khaeb National Park.
TotalEnergies EP Namibia B.V. ("TEEPNA") is applying to renew its ECC to continue with the previously assessed and approved activities, including appraisal well drilling in Block 2913B. TEEPNA and its partners hold an Exploration Right over Block 2913B.
The proposed amendments to the ECC (16 May 2018) and specifically to the Project Description in the EIA Report (SLR, 2017) covers the following items: Geographical Area; Number of Exploration Wells; Timing; and ECC Validity Period.
