This document aims to provide you, as an Interested and/or Affected Party (I&AP), with background information regarding the application for Environmental Clearance Certificate for the proposed 100 MW solar power plant in //Karas Region. (Refer to Section 9: Locality Map), and Section 6 on the required environmental studies to be undertaken.
Previous ECC expired in November 2023, while Stone Quarrying operations are expected to continue into the future.
Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited seeks to become active at planting and harvesting agricultural fruits such as grapes, citrus and avocado plantation in the northern western part of Namibia. Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited has applied for about 670 hectares of land in Otjomaungu village in the Epupa Constituency. The allocated land is granted for grape projects. Kunene Grapes and Citrus Et Al (Proprietary) Limited is a wholly owned Namibian company planting and harvesting grapes, citrus and avocados in the North Western part of Namibia.
To do quarrying activities at Dorob National Park as per Authorization and Lease Agreement entered into between the Government of the Republic of Namibia, represented by the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and Waken Contractors Close Corporation, represented by Mrs. Freddie Hambeleleni Elifas.

Application for an Environmental Clearance Certificate.
The Renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate is for: Continuation of the Solar Power Plant operation project on ML 142, for which an Environmental Clearance was obtained during September 2017 (see attached Appendix B to the cover letter), which requires authorisation in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (Act 7 of 2007) i.e. Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage activities. Title of Activity: Continuation of the Solar Power Plant operation project on ML 142.

The Renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate is for: Continuation of an existing mining activity, for which an Environmental Clearance was obtained during June 2017, which requires authorisation in terms of the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act (No. 33 of 1992). 2. Details of the Activity(s) covered by the Environmental Clearance Certificate: 2.1 Title of the Activity: Continuation of the mining for mineral dimension stone (i.e. marble and granite) on ML 142 hold by Namibia Marble and Granite (PTY) Ltd. (NAMAGRA).
