There are two schools of thought as to the best strategy to confront this undesirable state of affairs. The first, More of the Same, sees an increase in law enforcement and security as being the best approach. The second strategy, Radical Change, espoused mainly by the primary stakeholders in rhino conservation (SANParks, KWZN Parks and private landholders with a large investment in rhino) sees greater promise in the inception of a legal trade in rhino horn, believing that this will reduce the illegal hunting challenge and, most importantly, realise the funds needed to contain that challenge.
