This publication is the outcome of the African Waterbird Censuses (AfWCs) that are an integral part of the International Waterbird Census (IWCs). The present report, which covers the April 2001 - January 2004 period, provides interesting information on the population, distribution and status of waterbirds in Africa. The results presented therein will doubtless contribute to the efforts of conservation of waterbirds and wetlands, including those of international importance.
