In 2004 counts were done in January/February and July/August, with some wetlands also being counted in May. The January/February count yielded high numbers from the twenty sites counted, with Walvis Bay and Sandwich having the highest numbers by far. In addition to the sites listed here, Namibians participated in counts conducted at the Orange River Mouth. These counts were done in conjunction with South African authorities and the totals submitted by South Africa.
