Abstract:

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is for all stakeholders in the water sector in Namibia, i.e. for all water service providers and related management and governance entities and all water users. Capacity building and institutional development were found to be the key elements for implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Namibia. During the process of establishing the IWRMP it was also found that Namibian stakeholders have a wealth of knowledge and experience which must be shared amongst all stakeholders and water users. The key-objectives of IWRM capacity building are informed and improved decision-taking with regards to the whole water cycle and the responsible implementation of these decisions, reducing dependency on foreign development partners and to build new and anchor existing capacity within the country to alleviate poverty and to create wealth for the people in Namibia.
