PowerCom (Pty) Ltd hereinafter referred to as the proponent intends to construct a new lattice telecommunication tower in Masida village in the Linyati Constituency, Zambezi region. The piece of land will be leased by the Mafwe Traditional Authority. The proposed new telecommunication tower is part of the company’s strategic plan to increase network coverage nationwide. The proposed infrastructure include a lattice telecommunication tower made of steel materials (S355) as per the SABS0160 standards and will accommodate multiple antennas. The infrastructure will be enclosed with a steel fence to avoid unauthorized access. In terms of Environmental Management Act, 07 of 2007 and Schedule 10.1 (g) of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, the construction of Communication networks including towers, telecommunication and marine telecommunication lines and cables cannot be undertaken without any EIA being undertaken.
