Abstract:

LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING ENERGY GENERATION, TRANSMISSION AND STORAGE ACTIVITIES (1.a) The construction of facilities for the generation of electricity; (1.b) The construction of facilities for the transmission and supply of electricity. Makarra Bush Products Company does not engage in electricity generation facilities' construction. The facility relies on the CENORED grid for electricity supply, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining uninterrupted operations. WASTE MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL ACTIVITIES 2.2 Any activity entailing a scheduled process referred to in the Atmospheric Pollution Prevention Ordinance, 1976. Bi-weekly septic tank emptying ensures compliance with regulatory standards and minimizes environmental contamination risks. FORESTRY ACTIVITIES The clearance of forest area, deforestation, afforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No.12 of 2001) or any other law. Existing roads are utilized for access to minimize environmental impact and avoid the creation of new tracks and cut lines. The clearance area is minimized through meticulous project planning to reduce the environmental footprint and preserve natural habitats. Protected species and trees larger than 18cm in diameter at the base are identified and safeguarded, ensuring they are not included in the clearing process to uphold biodiversity and ecosystem integrity. LANDUSE AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES The rezoning of land from - agriculture use to industrial use. Land zoned for farm area and fenced off for restricted access. Assessment of potential impacts on local wildlife habitats due to land use changes. Evaluation of any changes in land use patterns, such as increased infrastructure development, resulting from the rezoning process and its potential effects on local ecosystems and communities. WATER RESOURCE DEVELOPMENTS -The abstraction of groundwater and surface water industrial or commercial purposes. -Construction of industrial and domestic wastewater treatment plants and related pipeline system. Makarra Bush Products relies on groundwater and surface water for operations, requiring monitoring to ensure sustainability and prevent adverse impacts. HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES TREATMENT, HANDLING AND STORAGE -The manufacturing, storage, handling, or processing of a hazardous substance defined in the Hazardous Substance Ordinance, 197. -Any process or activity which requires a permit, licence or other form of authorisation, or the modification of or changes to existing facilities for any process or activity which requires an amendment of an existing permit, licence or authorisation or which requires a new permit, licence or authorisation in terms of a law governing the generation or release of emissions, pollution, effluent or waste. Measures in place to mitigate the environmental impact of hazardous substance handling, including spill response plans, containment measures, and emergency procedures. The storage of hydrocarbons is 110% bunded and the handling of hydrocarbons involves the usage of drip trays in the workshop with a concrete floor.
