Abstract:

Namibia is a relatively new, sparsely populated nation located in the south-western part of the African continent, known as the "and between two deserts". The country has had high hopes of finding hydrocarbons within its boundaries, as it is situated between two oil and gas-rich nations and on trend with other significant oil and gas producers. Revenue from hydrocarbon development could improve the country’s balance sheet, create much-needed employment, support economic activity, significantly improve living standards of Namibian people, and help diversify the fragile economy. Its own oil and gas resources would also set Namibia on a path towards achieving energy independence, which is the focal point of the country's Vision 2030.
