Abstract:

ENERGY GENERATION, TRANSMISSION AND STORAGE ACTIVITIES (1) The construction of facilities for – (a) the generation of electricity; (b) the transmission and supply of electricity; Power will be generated on-site by a diesel generator FORESTRY ACTIVITIES (4.) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, afforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in term of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. Limited vegetation clearing may be required for tracks and survey access creation, and possibly for the setup of the survey teams’ field camps. WATER RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (8.1) The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. Due to the drilling of exploration boreholes, ground and surface water will need to be abstracted, or sourced. All the required permits shall be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform. MINING AND QUARRYING ACTIVITIES (3.1) The construction of facilities for any process or activities which requires a licence, right or other form of authorisation, and the renewal of a licence, right or other form of authorisation, in terms of the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining Act), 1992. (3.2) Other forms of mining or extraction of any natural resources whether regulated by law or not. (3.3) Resource extraction, manipulation, conservation and related activities. The proponent will be undertaking small-scale mining and exploration activities on EPL 7699 which will include bulk sampling, trial processing and exploration drilling. 3. Reasons for Amendments(s): Small-scale mining and exploration activities on additional mining claims 68853 and 68854. 4. Describe the environmental changes arising from the proposed amendment (s): Limited additional environmental changes shall arise, there will be an increase in the area impacted by the small-scale mining and exploration activities such as bulk sampling, trial processing and exploration drilling. 5. Describe how the environment and the community might be affected by the proposed amendment (s): The environment and community will not be affected by the proposed amendments because it is within the same area approved for existing mining claims that is part of the EPL. There are no new sensitive receptors for the additional mining claims. 6. Describe how and to what extent the environmental performance requirements set out in the assessment report previously approved or activity profile previously submitted for this activity may be affected: The existing environmental assessment report and EMP are still valid and have been updated to include the addition of the exploration activities on two mining claims, 68853 and 68854. This report evaluates only the potential environmental impacts of the additional work and EMP conditions related and applicable to these departures from the original ECC and its associated EMP. 7. Describe any additional measures proposed to eliminate, reduce or control any adverse environmental effect arising from the proposed amendment (s): No additional measures were added, and the same measures implemented for the other mining claims will be implemented for the additional claims.
