Abstract:

The is ECC is for the operation and maintenance of an existing 132kv Omaere - Ghanzi transmission line and Omaere substation in the Omaheke Region. The Omaere-Ghanzi 132kV route runs eastwards from the Omaere Substation towards the Botswana/Namibia border area in the vicinity of Buitepos where it crosses over into Botswana. The distance of this transmission line from Omaere Substation to Namibia/Botswana borders is 63 km in length. The 132kV Omaere - Ghanzi transmission line was constructed in 2004 with steel monopole structures. The Omaere substation covers a footprint of 21905 sqm. The 132KV Omaere - Ghanzi transmission line and Omaere substation was constructed in 2004 was constructed prior to the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act no 7 of 2007 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations of 2012. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
