Abstract:

The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66kv Etunda – Calueque transmission line and Etunda substation. The 66kv Etunda - Calueque transmission line route runs northwards, from the Etunda Substation to Calueque in Angola. This transmission line is about 17 km in length was constructed with steel structures in 1991. The Etunda substation covers a footprint of 2311sqm. This Environmental Clearance Certificate will only cover the line (2.8 km) up to the boarders of Angola and Namibia. The 66KV Etunda– Calueque transmission line and Etunda substation was constructed prior to the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act no 7 of 2007 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations of 2012. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
