Abstract:

The existing municipal sewage treatment plant (STP) was commissioned in 2012 and replaced the old sewage treatment plant located in Tamariskia. The STP receives and treats all liquid waste generated from the town. The Municipality of Swakopmund obtained a Wastewater and Effluent Disposal Exemption permit for the operation of the STP which is valid until 2025. The STP does not have the required Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) since there was no environmental impact assessment (EIA) done at the time of its commissioning.
