Abstract:

Renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate is for: The energy transmission and supply from the existing 66kV Power Transmission Line stretching from the existing Hardap Photovoltaic Solar Project to the NamPower Hardap substation near Mariental, for which an Environmental Clearance was obtained during August 2017, which requires authorisation in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (Act 7 of 2007) i.e. Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage activities. 2. Details of the Activity(s) covered by the Environmental Clearance Certificate: 2.1. Title of Activity Energy transmission and supply from the existing 66kV Power Transmission Line near Mariental. 2.2. Location of Activity The 66kV Power Transmission Line is situated on Portion 126 of the Farm Koichas No. 89, adjacent to the existing Hardap Substation, located approximately 4.5km east of the town of Mariental, situated in the Hardap Region. 2.3 Nature of Activity The nature of activities undertaken by the 66kV Power Transmission Line is the electricity management and distribution from the Hardap Photovoltaic Solar Project to the existing NamPower Hardap substation situated near Mariental, Hardap Region. 2.4 Scale and Scope of the Activity The Project site consists of an existing 66kV power transmission line stretching from the existing Hardap Photovoltaic Solar Project to the NamPower Hardap substation near Mariental. The electrical current by the PV panels also known as direct current (DC) is converted to alternating current (AC) and integrated into the electricity supply network. The electricity generated by the PV arrangement is fed into the existing electricity supply network via the existing Hardap Substation located adjacent the PV solar project.
