Abstract:

The Renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate is for: The energy transmission and supply from the existing 66kV Power Transmission Line stretching from the existing Kokerboom Photovoltaic Solar Project to the NamPower Kokerboom substation near Keetmanshoop, for which an Environmental Clearance was obtained during August 2017, which requires authorisation in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (Act 7 of 2007) i.e. Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage activities. 2. Details of the Activity(s) covered by the Environmental Clearance Certificate: 2.1. Title of Activity Energy transmission and supply from the existing 66kV Power Transmission Line near Keetmanshoop. 2.2. Location of Activity The 66kV Power Transmission Line is situated on Portion 8 of the Farm Klein Spitskop No. 153, approximately 20 km northeast of the town of Keetmanshoop, within the north central parts of //Karas Region. 2.3 Nature of Activity The nature of activities undertaken by the 66kV Power Transmission Line is the electricity management and distribution from the Kokerboom Photovoltaic Solar Project to the existing NamPower Kokerboom substation situated near Keetmanshoop, //Karas Region. 2.4 Scale and Scope of the Activity The Project site consists of an existing 66kV power transmission line stretching from the existing Kokerboom Photovoltaic Solar Project to the NamPower Kokerboom substation near Keetmanshoop. The electrical current by the PV panels also known as direct current (DC) is converted to alternating current (AC) and integrated into the electricity supply network. The electricity generated by the PV arrangement is fed into the existing electricity supply network via the existing Kokkerboom Substation located adjacent the PV solar project. The operations of the 66kV power transmission line have been operational since December 2018.
