Annual Report 2009/10

Publication Year:
2010
Abstract:

While the primary role of the MET is typically associated with the conservation of wildlife and national parks, the scope of its objectives and activities extends far beyond these areas. Namibia's tourism industry has received much publicity in recent years with booming visitor numbers to Namibia and the increasing contribution of the industry to poverty alleviation and employment creation, particularly in rural areas. This industry, as well as other key productive sectors of the economy such as fisheries and agriculture are critically dependent on a healthy and functioning environment to ensure their continued contribution to Namibia's development. Thus the true mandate of the MET encompasses the wise management of all of these resources for the economic upliftment of our country's people.
