Biogeography and systematics of South African Iepismatidae (Thysanura, Insecta): I: the Orange Free State: systematics
Three genera (Afrolepisma, Ctenolepisma and Xenolepisma) and 13 species of Lepismatidae are recorded from the Orange Free State. Of these, seven species represent new records for the region, while three Ctenolepisma species are newly descriptionbed. More abundant material of three Afrolepisma species, previously known from the types only, is treated. A major range extention is documented for C. plusiochaeta Silvestri, previously known from northern Namibia only. For all species, distribution and habitat preferences are recorded, as well as host species for nidicoles. Biogeographical analysis of the Lepismatidae confirms the modified eastern border of the South West Arid biotic zone previously proposed by Lynch (1985) on the basis of mammal distribution.
