Sub-regional action programme to combat desertification in southern Africa
The phenomena of desertification and drought, with the attendant degradation of land and other resources, have long been identified as major impediments to sustainable development in southern Africa. Accordingly, SADDC member States were among those which, during the Preparatory Process of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, called for an International Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD).
