Title:
The comparative denning behaviour and development of cubs

Abstract:
Like all large carnivores, hyaenas invest heavily in the development of their young, but the manner in which the two species do so varies somewhat. Both species house their young in dens for extended periods, but the features of these dens, and the roles of the individuals concerned with cub development vary. Unexpectedly, cooperation in raising young is more apparent among brown hyaenas than spotted hyaenas (Mills 1983b).
