Abstract: As identified in earlier IRDNC reports, the major focus of the CBNRM programme has been wildlife and wildlife-related tourism, sometimes to the neglect of valuable plant resources. These plant resources not only require management but have the potential to contribute to poverty alleviation and food security among rural communities, including through income generating activities. Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum spp) is a plant species with tubers holding pharmacological properties effective in the treatment of rheumatism, arthritis and tendonitis, among others.
