Wildlife conservation and utilisation as complements to agriculture in southern African development
The aim of this paper is to review empirical evidence concerning the economics of various land use alternatives in southern Africa and their potential to contribute to rural development. Their potential to contribute to livelihoods, national income, and non-use economic values is investigated. Traditional livestock keeping/agropastoralism, commercial livestock production, commercial wildlife utilisation and wildlife conservation are examined.
