Abstract:

The alarming population decline reported for Blue Cranes by David Allan (African Wildlife Vol. 48 No. 8) showed that in certain areas of South Africa, numbers had decreased by 90 per cent in recent years. The decline is attributed to indiscriminate poisoning by some farmers and loss of habitat, mainly in the grassland biorea.
