Notes on the breeding cycle of Cape Vultures (Gyps coprotheres)
Observations were made of the pre-laying, incubation and nestling periods of the Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres) at acolony in the southwestern Cape Province, South Africa. Some members of the colony were colour-ringed as nestlings; this allowed the sex of breeding partners to be determined by subsequent observation of copulation. Information on occupancy of nest sites, nest-building, a sex-related behavioural difference, dates of egg-laying, incubation and nestling periods, parasite infestation (Prosimuliium spp.), and associated blood parasites (Leucocytozoon) of nestlings is presented.
