Namibia's thematic report on Benefit-sharing mechanisms for the use of biological resources, 15 May, 2001
This report not only addresses the generic questions suggested as part of the guidelines for detailed thematic reports on Benefit-Sharing, but also presents a case study on benefit-sharing arrangements and related issues. The case study focuses on the international trade in Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens)from Namibia, which has been going on at substantial and increasing levels for about four decades, driven by growing international demand for this plant as a source of active medicinal ingredients for the production of different phyto-medical drugs.
