Title:

Declines and Movements of Lesser Flamingos in Africa

Author(s):
Publication Year:

Abstract:

Lesser Flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) occur mainly in Africa where they breed on isolated and often inhospitable soda lakes in the Rift Valley (East Africa), and on old lake beds in southern Africa (Botswana and Namibia). Controversy surrounds 2 aspects of their ecology:(1) whether populations are stable or declining, and (2) whether East African and southern African populations are genetically isolated.
