Abstract:

Specimen and sight records in south-central and southern African countries reviewed. On the east side of the continent Spotted Crake occurs down to 29 S, and it appears to be present from December to early May, with about 70 dated records showing a peak in February Its normal habitat is dense vegetation in shallow water or on wet ground The Botswana material are all female birds, two individuals collected on 29 December at Selenia, and a third individual collected at Savute on 13 April (years not given) and they are held in the collections of the National Museum, Bulawayo.
