Abstract:

For this project, ECC proposes to only develop a comprehensive environmental management plan (EMP) for the following reason. Small tourism establishments, like the proposed project by nature have limited environmental footprints and low potential for significant adverse impacts on their surroundings. Thus, subjecting them to a full environmental impact assessment (EIA) could be excessively resource intensive. LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING ENERGY GENERATION, TRANSMISSION AND STORAGE ACTIVITIES (1) The construction of facilities for - (a) the generation of electricity; - A ground-mounted solar system with an approximate capacity of 10 kWp will be installed to power the residential facilities, specifically the farmhouse. Additionally, the project includes the installation of individual single solar panels for each self-catering unit. WASTE MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL ACTIVITIES (2.1) The construction of facilities for waste sites, treatment of waste and disposal of waste. (2.3) The import, processing, use and recycling, temporary storage, transit or export of waste. - This project will involve the temporary storage of general waste. - The proponent will install small septic tanks (+-600L) for each self-catering tented accommodation unit (3 to 4 units planned). TOURISM DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES (6.) The construction of resorts, lodges, hotels or other tourism and hospitality facilities. - The following infrastructure has been constructed on site in 2019, campsites and an ablution facility. - The proponent also plans to construct three (3) to four (4) self-catering tented accommodation units. WATER RESOURCE DEVELOPMENTS (8.1) The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. - Water for the campsites and proposed selfcatering units will be sourced from an existing borehole. - An additional borehole will be drilled in the near future to supply the farmhouse with water. HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE TREATMENT, HANDLING AND STORAGE (9.1) The manufacturing, storage, handling or processing of a hazardous substance defined in the Hazardous Substances Ordinance, 1974. (9.2) Any process or activity which requires a permit, licence or other form of authorisation, or the modification of or changes to existing facilities for any process or activity which requires an - The proponent will install small septic tanks (+- 600L) for each self-catering tented accommodation unit (3 to 4 units planned). 1 Septic tank will also be installed for the proposed farmhouse. amendment of an existing permit, licence or authorisation or which requires a new permit, licence or authorisation in terms of a law governing the generation or release of emissions, pollution, effluent or waste. OTHER ACTIVITIES (11.2) Construction of cemeteries, camping, leisure and recreation sites. - There are campsites on-site and various tourism and leisure activities will form part of the project (i.e. game drives and nature walks).
