230404001269: EIA for the bulk water supply pipeline for the proposed Tumas Project in the Erongo Region of Namibia
RE-REGISTRATION OF APPLICATION ON MEFT ONLINE SYSTEM FINAL EIA SUBMISSION: BULK WATER SUPPLY PIPELINE FOR THE PROPOSED TUMAS PROJECT IN THE ERONGO REGION OF NAMIBIA Reptile Uranium Namibia (Pty) Ltd (RUN) submitted an application to the Ministry of Mines and Energy to convert, in part, its Exclusive Prospecting Licences (EPLs) 3496 and 3497 to a Mining Licence (ML). RUN is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (Pty) Ltd (RMR) who manages and conducts the exploration activities on RUN’s tenements. RUN and RMR are both wholly owned subsidiaries of Deep Yellow Ltd. (Deep Yellow), an Australian listed company. The various Project activities and infrastructure proposed for the Tumas Project can broadly be summarised as follows: Open Pit mining. Ore transported with haul trucks to the onsite plant for processing. Mineral and non-mineral waste (i.e. radioactive contaminated) from the mining and processing activities to be disposed of at onsite facilities (Waste Rock Dumps (WRDs) and Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)). Use of reagents for processing. Water supply and storage as well as power supply to the mining and processing activities. Final product, uranium oxide (U3O8) and by-product, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) exported for further processing. A water pipeline will be constructed, with a nominal diameter of 350 mm, to supply water to the Tumas mining and processing activities. The proposed route for the water pipeline is ~65 km in length, following an alignment from the NamWater base pump station near Swakopmund to the Tumas Project, largely parallel to the C28 Road and the two existing water pipeline supplying water to the Husab Mine and the Langer Heinrich Mine. The pipeline route falls within the Dorob National Park (DNP) (i.e. first ~12 km, south of the Swakop River) and the NNNP.
