221031000221: Renewal application of the ECC for Namibia Non-ferrous East China Mineral Exploration and Development's proposed exploation activities on EPL 3365, near Rehoboth

Publication Year:
2022
Abstract:

Namibia Non-Ferrous East China Mineral Exploration and Development (Pty) Ltd (hereinafter referred to as Namibia Non-Ferrous) was successfully granted an Exclusive Prospecting Licence (EPL) 3365 in 2017, with a validity period until 2020, located near Rehoboth, in the Windhoek District, Hardap/Khomas Region. EPL 3365 is approximately 31,000 Hectares (ha) in size. Namibia Non-Ferrous previously conducted surface work and researches on potential areas in the field before drilling, such as geological survey (revision), geophysical survey and trenches n 2018/2019. However, the full envisaged exploration programme could not be carried out, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic in 2019. As a result of the pandemic, all exploration activities ceased within EPL 3365, along with the ECC which expired in June 2020. However, Namibia Non-Ferrous are currently in a position to proceed and carry on and complete their planned exploration activities, hence this ECC Renewal Application and associated Updated EMP. In addition, Namibia Non-Ferrous aim to complete the work envisaged to elevate the project from pre-feasibility study to a feasibility study stage in order to apply for mining license. Therefore, a renewal for environmental clearance is required from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT).
