Abstract:

The Environmental Clearance Certificate renewal is for: Land use and Development Activities Activity 5.2 - Establishment of Land Resettlement Scheme Activity 8.1 - Water Resource Developments The abstraction of groundwater for commercial purposes Activity 8.6 - Water Resource Developments Construction of domestic wastewater treatment plants Activity 8.9 - Water Resource Developments Construction and other activities within a catchment area Activity 10.1(b) (Infrastructure) The construction of – Public roads Title of Activity: Proposed development of the Nordland Nature Estate and its associated infrastructure on a portion (Portion A) of Portion 1 of the Farm Nordland No. 510. Location of Activity: Portion 1 of the Farm Nordland No. 510, Otavi Constituency, Otjozondjupa Region. Nature of the Activity: Mr and Mrs de Jager, the owners of the Farm (proponent), is of the intention to subdivide the Farm into a smaller Portion A, which again will be subdivided into 25 portions of ± 1ha per portion , to be used for residential purpose (i.e. estate development). Scale and scope of Activity: The scope of this project is limited to obtaining the renewed Environmental Clearance Certificate for the proposed subdivision of Portion 1 of the Farm Nordland No. 510, for the purpose of the Nordland Nature Estate and its associated infrastructure. All infrastructure requirements will be financed and provided by the Proponent with the input of the appointed professional team. Access to the proposed Nature Estate will be obtained from the existing entrance to the Farm off the D2820 road (Otavi - Kombat), which obtains access from the existing B8 (Otavi - Grootfontein road). The D2820 road lies under the jurisdiction of Roads Authority from which formal approval was obtained. Water and electricity will be obtained from the existing boreholes and a combination of solar and gas energy, respectively. Wastewaters will be treated on site by way of biological wastewater treatment plants enabling reuse of waters for gardening purposes.
