The Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) has recognised the urgent need to improve solid waste management in Namibia. This National Solid Waste Management Strategy is important to ensure that the future directions, regulations, funding and action plans to improve solid waste management are properly co-ordinated and consistent with national policy, and to facilitate co-operation between stakeholders. Stakeholder consultation has been carried out throughout the development of the Strategy. The work started with a baseline assessment to identify and confirm the priorities for the Strategy to address (Box 1.1). The final draft Strategy was distributed in July 2017 to key stakeholders for their feedback, and they were invited to the national consultation workshop that was held on 19 July 2017.
