Abstract:

Renewal of environmental clearance certificate for the 10MW wind farm on Seal site at Lüderitz, !Karas Region, Namibia. Title of Activity: The proponent proposes the wind farm to be divided into two (2) separate projects comprising 6MW and 4MW owned by Ombepo Energy (Pty) Ltd and Ombepo Energy Two (Pty) Ltd, respectively. These two projects will each require separate Generation License and ECC. Nature of Activity: Operational activities of the existing wind farm in Lüderitz, !Karas Region, Namibia. Scale and Scope of Activity: The existing wind farm comprise three (3) turbines with 80 m hub height that produces a total of 5 000 kW nominal power. The initial project design comprised five (5) turbines of 2MW AC each and as per the ECC that was granted in October 2015. However, as part of the project new refinancing model and shareholding restructuring, the proponent proposes the wind farm to be divided into two (2) separate projects comprising 6MW and 4MW owned by Ombepo Energy (Pty) Ltd and Ombepo Energy Two (Pty) Ltd, respectively. The following is the summary of the activities associated with the operational and rehabilitation stages of the wind farm: Operations of the turbines at Ombepo farm with rotating blades attached to a driveshaft which spins inside the generator to take mechanical energy (rotating blades) and convert it into electrical energy; convert it into electrical energy; Wind Energy Generation and Maintenance (for 25 Years); and Decommissioning (After 25 Years) / Upgrade of Facility.
