Abstract:

The Environmental Clearance Certificate Renewal is for: Activity 5.1 - The rezoning of land from - (a) residential use to industrial or commercial use Hazardous Substance Treatment, Handling and Storage Activity 9.2 - Any process or activity which requires a permit, licence or other form of authorisation, or the modification of or changes to existing facilities for any process or activity which requires an amendment of an existing permit, licence or authorisation or which requires a new permit, licence or authorisation in terms of a law governing the generation or release of emissions, pollution, effluent or waste. Details of the activity(s) covered by the Environmental Clearance Certificate: 2.1 Title of the Activity: Rezoning of Portion 3/2 of the Farm Döbra No. 49 (Brakwater) from "Residential" to "Restricted Business" in order to Develop Warehouses and a Distribution Centre (Windhoek). Location of Activity: Portion 3 (a portion of Portion 2) of the Farm Döbra No. 49 is situated within the central-eastern parts of the larger Brakwater area. 2.3 Nature of Activity: The development entails the rezoning of land from "Residential" to; "Restricted Business" for the purpose of developing warehouses and a distribution centre. Associated infrastructure constructed as part of the development includes connection to existing bulk electrical and potable water infrastructure as well as an on-site wastewater treatment plant. 2.4 Scale and Scope of the Activity: Portion 3 has a surface area of approximately 27 ha. The development commenced in 2017 and includes the following activities: (A) The rezoning of land from "Residential" to "Restricted Business". (B) The clearing of vegetation in areas to be developed. (C) The construction of connections to existing bulk services infrastructure including electricity and potable water. An on-site wastewater treatment plant will also be constructed. (D) The construction of warehouses. The bulk storage of various commodities to be distributed to and sold at the Proponent`s retail outlets.
