The ECC is for the operation of the 66kV Gerus - Paresis transmission line. The 66kV Gerus – Paresis line was constructed in 1999 prior to the commencement of the Environmental Management Act and its regulation, as a result there was no environmental impact assessment study conducted for the project prior to its development. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. There is also an urgent need for NamPower to do bush clearing under this powerline in order to prevent power outages.
