Abstract:

The ECC is for the operation of the 220 Omburu - Gerus transmission line. The 220kV Omburu - Gerus line was constructed in 1973 prior to the commencement of the Environmental Management Act and its regulation, as a result there was no environmental impact assessment study conducted for the project prior to its development. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. In addition there is an urgent need for NamPower to carry out bush clearing activities under this powerline due vegetation over growth. Bush clearing should be done as soon as possible in order to prevent power outages.
