Abstract:

The hydrology of a wetland creates the unique physiochemical conditions that make such an ecosystem different from both well-drained terrestrial systems and deep water aquatic systems. Hydrologic pathways such as precipitation, surface runoff, groundwater, tides, transport energy and nutrients to and from wetlands. Hydrology is probably the single most important determinant of the establishment and maintenance of specific types of wetlands and wetland processes.
