Abstract: Measurements of Bateleur Terathopius ecaudatus population density and age structure, made between 1981 and 1984 in the Kruger National Park (K.N.P.), were used to estimate non-adult mortality (0,75) and adult survival (0,95), and detect patterns of non-adult emigration from the park in the breeding season and immigration between breeding seasons. Over the study period 33% of the population were young birds ( 8 years old) and 67% were adult. Among adults there was a 1: 1 sex ratio. A model of the relation between mean adult survival, non-adult mortality and productivity in a stable population was used to assess the present status of the Bateleur population in the K.N.P.
