Abstract: Three new species of the genus Cassida are described, two of them from the Republic of South Africa: Cassida capensis from Northern Cape Province, and C. drakensbergensis from Northern Province, Drakensberg, and one from Namibia: Cassida namibiensis from Erongo District. New records of 39 species preserved in the collection of the MNHUB are given. A list of all Cassidinae species known from Southern African countries is provided. This is meant to provide a preliminary resume of our biogeographical knowledge of this generally rather well studied region for the Afrotropical Cassidinae and to reveal potential gaps of collection. A pattern of distribution and characteristic species groups emerges, but in view of the scarce data on development and bionomy, we are still far from a profound biological knowledge of the group.
