Abstract:

A recent perusal of the national rarities section of Trevor Hardaker's website (http://www.zestforbirds.co.za) revealed that a number of southern African rarities have been photographed in Namibia in recent months. The table herewith is an extract from the website of those birds photographed in Namibia from the beginning of January 2007 until the end February 2008. I have copied from the website the common names of the species, the locations at which they were photographed, the names of the photographers and where possible the dates when they were photographed. The dates are not always posted especially where there have been a number of sightings. It should be noted that the photographs have been posted on the website without verification by rarities committees and that the names are those of the photographers and not necessarily the names of the persons who first saw the birds. It seems from this extract that Mile 4 Saltworks, Walvis Bay and Shamvura Camp are something of 'hotspots' where southern African rarities are concerned with the Mile 4 Saltworks being a particularly good site to find common redshank.
