A brief description, together with a generalised geological map, of the stratigraphy of the Richtersveld and the eastern Sperrgebiet is given, strata varying in age from the Kheis to the Tertiary being described. A new assemblage of sediments, the Gariep system, is noted and the tentative correlation of this system with the Damara suggested. Four periods of magmatic activity are mentioned.
