A simple animal chromosome technique for use in field laboratories
A chromosome preparation technique has been developed over several years for use primarily with birds. The technique is similar to others in general use being based essentially on the methods of Ohno and Shoffner. Modifications were developed specilically for use under "field laboratory" conditions, with a minimum or steps and apparatus, including tile option of using biopsy material without cell culture. Keywords: Avian embryos, Banding techniques, Basic squash sequence, Colchicine administration, Differential centrifugation, Hypotonic solution, Incubation, Karyological subjects, Sacrifice method, Standard Giemsa staining.
