Title:

Booted Eagles breeding and diet records from Brukkaros Crater 2009

Publication Year:
2009
Abstract:

Booted Eagles (Aquila pennatus) that are resident and breed in South Africa and Namibia belong to the subspecies minisculus. An estimated 702 prs occur in South Africa but only one known breeding site exists for this species in north-central Namibia. This remains the only record for this species from Namibia and egg-laying occurred in June - 3 months earlier than in South Africa where large raptors generally breed earlier. Here we confirm the breeding of Booted Eagles from a second site, in the Brukkaros crater in southern Namibia in August 2009.
