241223005093: Renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the continued operation of the existing Olympia Service Station, Windhoek, Khomas Region
Publication Year:
2025
Abstract:

ENGEN Namibia (Pty) Ltd is a leading marketer of liquid fuels and lubricants in the country. The company has invested in a number of retail fuel facilities across the length and breadth of the country. These facilities ensure self-sufficiency to ENGEN in terms of the supply of its products to its entire customer base, thus augmenting its supply chain. One such site is Olympia Service Station. Significant developments recently have seen Engen and Vivo Energy combine to create a Pan-African Champion in the hydrocarbon industry. To this end Vivo Energy, a subsidiary of Vitol, has successfully completed the purchase of PETRONAS' 74% shareholding in Engen Limited. Completion of this transaction marks an exciting new chapter for Engen, as the combination of the Engen and Vivo Energy businesses creates one of Africa’s largest energy companies, and further solidifies Engen’s commitment to safely deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service. Vivo Energy has a history of investing to grow businesses and this transaction is a tremendous opportunity to refocus Engen for future success in the interest of all stakeholders. In terms of the Environmental Management Act 7 of 2007 (Government Notice No. 29), certain activities may not be undertaken without an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC). This activity is included in the above-mentioned list. It is against this background that Engen Namibia (Pty) Ltd applied for and obtained an ECC for this facility. The ECC is valid for a period of three (3) years and has expired. Engen has thus appointed Environam Consultants Trading (ECT) to apply for the renewal of the ECC on its behalf.
