Abstract:

THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE IS FOR: Activity 8.1- Water Resource Developments The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. Activity 8.2 - Water Resource Developments The abstraction of groundwater at a volume exceeding the threshold authorized in terms of a law relating to water resources. Activity 8.7 - Water Resources Developments Irrigation schemes for agriculture excluding domestic irrigation 2.1. TITLE OF ACTIVITY Remainder of Farm Grunewald No. 135 Irrigation Expansion Development 2.2. LOCATION OF ACTIVITY The Remainder of Farm Grunewald No. 135 is situated approximately 15km south of Stampriet village, located within the central eastern parts of Hardap Region. The existing irrigation scheme area is located to the west of the existing farmhouse, which is located to the north-eastern corner of the Farm. 2.3 NATURE OF ACTIVITY The owner of the Remainder of Farm Grunewald No. 135 is of the intention to expand the irrigation development on the farm with an additional two centre pivot irrigation fields of 20ha each. The existing irrigation scheme on the Remainder of Farm Grunewald comprise of two centre pivot irrigation fields of 16 ha each. Water for these two fields are supplied from two boreholes, i.e. WW200904 and WW203399. The Proponent is in possession of abstraction Permit No. 10785 to abstract groundwater for irrigation purposes from these two boreholes. The permit quota is for 270,000 m³/a and is still valid with expiry date on 29 April 2023.
