The genus Ballota L. (Lamiaceae) new to the flora of South West Africa. The genus Ballota L. in the Republic of South Africa is represented by a Single species only: Ballota afvieana (L. ) Bentham. Here the first record of the species in question from South West Africa is published. Corresponding to our earlier treatment of the Lamiaceae (in: H. Merxmüller, Prodromus einer Flora von Südwestafrika, family no. 123, instaltment no. 29, p. 1-32, 1969) the genus Ballota L. has been added to the key and enumeration of genera and species. The distribution of Ballota afvieana (L.) Bentham is shown on map no. 1 (p. 254).
